Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Joint and muscle pain are complaints that many patients suffer from on a daily basis. It is important to find the real source of the symptoms, so you can make the proper diagnosis and prescribe the right treatment.

X-rays, CT Scans and MRI’s have been for the longest time the tests to evaluate musculoskeletal problems. Recent advances in sonar and ultrasound technology have created a more functional and practical approach to evaluate joints, muscles, ligaments and even nerves. This technology is called musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS).

Clinical evidence and research supports using ultrasound as the first diagnostic test for numerous musculoskeletal conditions. Diagnostic ultrasound offers a number of important advantages compared to X-Ray, CT and MRI, in terms of safety and effectiveness. Musculoskeletal ultrasound simply uses sonic waves, and there is no exposure to radiation.

Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging (MSKUS) is a non-invasive technology used to assist your healthcare professionals in diagnosing conditions by providing an image of tendons, ligaments, muscles, soft tissue, and the surfaces of bones.

Abnormalities such as muscle and tendon tears, soft tissue masses, inflammatory joints disease and nerve conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome can be detected with MSKUS on an in-office examination.

MSKUS is a valuable testing option for individuals who are unable to receive certain diagnostic imaging examinations due to the following limitations: Pacemaker, Orthopedic hardware in the area of interest, Claustrophobia or as an imaging option for those not wanting the exposure of harmful x-rays or to incur the significant expense of an MRI.
